The Hotlist 9/27

Another Sunday another Fall League, this time I ventured out to Spotswood HS in beautiful scenic Rockingham County. Before you ask it is East of Harrisonburg, VA home of James Madison University.

Props to the Spotswood coaching staff for giving all the teams a place to play and prepare for the varsity season.

Here is a run down of what caught my eye in the gym..

2012

Courtney Green 5-6/Millbrook Winchester, VA…she is probably the most skilled player in the gym and may be the most skilled player in this region of the state. She has a very high IQ and her much improved jumper is pretty solid from behind the arc, she can attack the basket off the dribble and finish in traffic. Now that she is comfortable on the perimeter, it is time for her to become a cold-blooded killer and bring the intensity on every possession.

Sara Miller 5-7/Millbrook Winchester, VA..she is developing into a nice solid guard, she can handle the ball confidently and she makes good decisions with the ball. She has a nice smooth jump shot and she can shoot off the dribble(which she needs to do more of). She is a straight A student(hyper-genius type) and will definitely be able to get into and play at an Ivy League school.

Alisha Mobley 5-11/Millbrook Winchester, VA..a solid ‘tweener post player just a tad under 6ft that is solid around that basket. She has very good athleticism for her size and does a good job running the floor in transition.

Whitney Martin 5-9/Miller School Charlottesville, VA..Long range and athletic…still very raw but has potential.

2011

Ashley Bowles 5-9/Miller School Charlottesville, VA..Very athletic guard, she as an upside but needs work on ball handling if she is going to play at the next level.

Kelsey Corcoran 6-2/Skyline Front Royal, Va..Big solid post body wide shoulders, very strong(she made a baseball pass the length of the court). Very good on the boards uses her body well to get position in the paint. She is getting some college looks, wants to go to a military academy, she has already heard from West Point..Blue and Gold where u at(yes I am biased)

2010

Lacey Harris 5-8/Millbrook Winchester, VA..Aggressive hard worker on the court, does a lot of things well and has great leadership skills

Rutal Lydze 6-7/Miller School Charlottesville, VA..She is 6-7 coming off of an ACL her mobility is very limited. She does take up space under the basket and can easily make a lay-up under the basket. Did I mention she is 6-7 LEGIT

Even though it is only Fall League, I was able to see some good things from Millbrook as a team. They are fortunate enough to have a real coach working with them in Fall league, Eric Green from the Winchester Rising Stars, who is Courtney’s Dad (no Daddy Googles either!!!). Considering they don’t have a player over 6-0, they are pretty fundamentally sound as a team. They are returning their core starters and with the addition of Mobley they should have a shot at the state championship in AA Group 3.

BTW…I have no clue about the rationale behind VHSL groupings in AA and A.

So I have done my due diligence and checked the fringe regions of the DMV…after I get back from my ESPN Hoopgurlz assignment in the ATL, I will be back around the Beltway making my rounds.

Peace!

#1 Pete :

Good to see someone in the area checking these young ladies out.
Keep an eye on the smallest player on the court for The Miller School in
the future ( Nicole Courtney). She maybe a sleeper.
Good job reporting
